He obtained a Doctorate degree in psychology at the University of San Luís (with Claribel Morales and Jorge M. Affanni, 1985), was a predoctoral fellow (CONICET) at the Universities of Minnesota (with Bruce Overmier, 1980-82) and Pennsylvania (with Robert Rescorla, 1982), and was assistant research professor at the University of Hawaii (with Jeff Bitterman, 1988-90). He developed his research on the neurobiology of frustration from comparative and neurobiological perspectives at Texas Christian University, where he moved in 1990, and he worked in collaboration with researchers from Argentina, Colombia, Germany, Japan, and Spain. He was President of Division 6 (American Psychological Association, 2011-12) and the International Society for Comparative Psychology (2008-10), a Fulbright US Scholar (2015), and Editor of the International Journal of Comparative Psychology (2000-05). He published more than 170 articles in scientific journals and the third edition of his book “Comparative Psychology: Evolution and Development of Brain and Behavior” has just been published (Taylor & Francis, 2021). He is currently working with Mark Krause and Karen Hollis on an edited volume entitled “Evolution of Learning and Memory Mechanisms” (Cambridge University Press, 2021).
